The evening commenced with an intimate Tribute Celebration held in the enchanting Beer Garden at The Monument, a venue located on the Old Town Mall in Winchester, VA.
Blue Ridge Hospice’s President and CEO, Cheryl Hamilton Fried, kicked off the night with opening remarks.
“This event was planned as a celebration of music, the community of Northern Shenandoah Valley, and as a remembrance and tribute.”
The power of music
The program of the Tribute Celebration served as a platform to honor the importance of music, community, and remembrance.
At the event, attendees had the opportunity to learn more about Blue Ridge’s pioneering Music Therapy program directly from board-certified music therapist, Leigh Jenks.
Leigh played recordings of testimonials from former patients and families, and sang a medley of songs that our attendees had shared as being particularly meaningful to them in remembrance of a loved one they had lost.
Susana Calley, our Patient and Family Support Services Manager, read the names of attendees’ loved ones in a small remembrance ceremony.
“At Blue Ridge Hospice, music is an integral part of the care we provide, the memories we preserve, the grief support we offer.”
We took a moment to meet and greet the band members of Mission Road and Low Water Bridge Band.
“We are so grateful that both Low Water Bridge Band and Mission Road are donating their time and talent tonight to One More Song!” shared Cheryl.
Following this meaningful prelude, the main Concert took center stage.
Emcee Les Veach introduced Mission Road and they kicked off the concert with a roaring good time playing some of our favorite hits from the 70’s and 80’s.
Our very own Chief Medical Office, Dr. Flynn, took the time to share the history of One More Song, and thanked everyone present for supporting Blue Ridge Hospice.
“One More Song started seven years ago. A local musician was so moved by the care we provided to his mom in our Inpatient Care Center, he wanted to give back by organizing this benefit.”
Then it was time for Low Water Bridge Band to bring down the roof and celebrate one last concert at The Monument.
From the moment they took the stage, the band’s unique and captivating sound had the crowd cheering and dancing.
Thank you, Low Water Bridge Band, for being a part of this special evening for Blue Ridge Hospice.
