NEW! Book Club with Blue Ridge Hospice Grief & Loss Support


Join the Blue Ridge Hospice Grief Support Counselors for a discussion of the book, The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion. This award-winning memoir accounts the year following the sudden death of the author’s spouse. Joan describes the mental, emotional, and behavioral effects of grief as she recounts the experiences of the year following her loss and wrestles with the question, “What is ‘normal’ grief?”

Discussion will take place via Zoom on Tuesday, February 23rd from 10:00-11:00.

The book discussion is open to the public. Participation is capped at 10.

NEW! COVID Loss Support Group


COVID Loss Support Group through Blue Ridge Hospice Grief and Loss Support Services. Details:

A three-session virtual support group for individuals who have lost a loved one to COVID.

Sessions are three consecutive Wednesdays via Zoom – 2/17, 2/24, and 3/3 from 6:30-8:00 pm.

Walking Through Grief

POSTPONED | Tuesdays at the Apple Blossom Mall in Winchester

The death of a loved one can impact our desire to take care of ourselves physically and socially. This group meets weekly at Apple Blossom Mall for light walking and socialization. One grief counselor will be available to walk the mall with participants, while another will be present in the food court for visitation.


Kaleidoscope Project: Holiday Luminary Workshop for Children & Teens


A Grief Support Counselor will deliver a kit of materials to create a luminary in memory of your loved one, then meet virtually to construct it and share discussion about holidays and grief. Children and teens will also have the opportunity to display their luminaries outside of Blue Ridge Hospice and share some words about their person if interested.

Broken Silence


This monthly support group is for family and friends who have survived the suicide of a loved one.

Pre-registration is required.



This monthly support group is for those who have accessed other grief support services and are continuing to grieve the loss of a loved one.

Lunch Bunch


Gather together with other adults who have experienced the death of a loved one. In a more relaxed environment, you will be able to engage in a time of fellowship and sharing.

Exploring Grief through Equine Assisted Learning
In partnership with Holistic Horsemanship Services, LLC.

Monthly at Sunny Lane Farm

A farm-based grief support group for all ages, offering horse grooming, hand grazing, and natural horsemanship techniques surrounded by horses and nature.

Individual Grief Counseling

Confidential counseling is available at various locations throughout the Blue Ridge Hospice service area. If you are homebound, home-based counseling services are available to those whose loved one was a patient of Blue Ridge Hospice. Please call our registration and referral line at (540) 313-9214.
